E I G H T || There is Music In You

You may not know this but music is very important to me. I think to music. I walk to music. I read to music. I dream to music. Everything has its own personal soundtrack and score in life. I am a nerd about movie scores and contemporary composers, but I also love a good show tune and country love song. I have a running list on my phone of new songs that I hear and like or lyrics from a song I don't know and what to look up. Also, the Shazam app is never too far off.

Music is so powerful and absolutely from the heart of God. In the Bible it says to sing a song to the Lord, and to make music with the lyre and harp.  I could spend hours talking about music or sharing my favorites with you, but I'll try to limit myself to just a handful.

Worship Music
Some of my favorites include Antioch Live, Hillsong United, Bethel Music, and Jonathan David Helser. I like to start my morning with it and keep a CD (or several) in the car. Listening to it throughout the day really helps me to stay positive and really impacts me emotionally. Over the past 8 months (AH! It's been 8 months!) of being in Seattle, there are several songs that I've had on repeat for one reason or another, and you should check them out :)

Country Music
I'm a country girl at heart, and I love a good country song. If I can dance to it, cry to it, or belt it out in the car, then it's on my list. I rarely listen to the radio so I don't find new music very often, but these are a few of of my more recent favorites.

Musicals/Movies
So who wants to take me to New York City? Anyone? Anyone at all? The first video below is of the 2013 production of Cinderella. It is pure magic!  Someday I will see many a Broadway show, even if this one has come and gone. The second piece is part of the score from How to Train Your Dragon. Did anyone see that coming? I doubt it ;) The first time I heard it, I thought if falling in love was a piece of music this would be it. My heart soars at the sound of it! Next comes Frozen, one of my favorite movies I've seen this winter! (If you have time and are familiar with the song "Let it Go" you need to watch this VIDEO of two adorable children singing their hearts out, followed by this VIDEO of a certain High School Musical song cross over which is just hilarious). And the last of these is not from a musical or a movie, but if you've seen the Olympics commercial about mom's helping their kids rise to greatness (I cried...), it is by the same composer. Ludovico Einaudi has been a favorite of mine since high school and he is a great one to listen to when reading.

One More
Lastly, this is my guilty pleasure song. Probably my favorite to belt out in the car. I heard James Arthur's cover of "Wrecking Ball" before I ever heard Miley. It's the only version I listen to. Go ahead, give it a listen. It'll give you a whole new perspective --and maybe even a love-- on this piece of music that I think many have a love-hate relationship with already.

There you have it! I can't wait to check out some of your picks, and you'll have to let me know what you think of these! Like I said, I could talk music all day.

  1. ohmygosh this is SO relatable! I'm constantly listening to music from the time I wake up until I go to sleep. From country to worship music to Frankie Valli and everything in between. I'm also in love with the Rogers and Hammerstein Cinderella version ( "Ten Minutes Ago" is always the that gets stuck in my head).
